Jayden Chua Ren Jie

its seven thirty in the evening and i am waiting for dinner to be ready, home made pizza... no wonder my diet plan doesnt work.... ever notice that the word "diet" starts with DIE??... hmmm........

my old man handed me this piece of paper last night, he has finally decided on juniors name.. its gonna be Jayden Chua Ren Jie, for the life of me, i have no idea what that four string of chinese charaters meant but according to him, it actually contains all the best things in the world, he also reckons that if you read from left to right, you would get Jayden Chua and if you read from right to left, you would get JieRen Chua... cool... how many guys out there can actually say that their mandrain name comes with a chinese poem?

we were at the doc last thus, it was week 34... we were the fourth couple in the waiting room, and i was reading some super out-dated magazine, you would think that with the money they make, they should at least have the decency to keep the magzine updated... no luck here...

we were in the docs room before long... the doc was explaining to us that we are very close to the due date and usually a check would be done to make sure that theres no risk of infection in the birth canal, he mentioned something about a test and got the nurse to ready THE WIFE while he proceeded to put on rubber gloves... usually when a doc puts on rubber gloves or for that matter, when anyone snaps on a pair of rubber gloves, you know it aint gonna be pretty..... the test was simple enough, just a swap and it was over.... and than it was back to the usual scanning

doc: hmmm.. everything looks okay, but his head is a little big though... the body is of week 34 and the head is of week 37.
me: should i be worried?
doc: well, theres really nothing you can do about it... we cant really see his face yet, hes got it up against the wall here... so now he has turned around.. his head is down here and his feets are up here....
me: should i be worried about the head thing?
doc: hmmm... dont worry, it shouldnt get too big that he cant come out the normal way... hes about 2.8 kgs now....

back at his table.... the doc was taking some data from the computer and drawing on some chart on his medical report...

doc: you see, his head is in the 90s percentile while his body is in the 70s percentile..
me:should i be worry about his head?
doc: theres really nothing we can do about it now, what have you been feeding him?
THE WIFE: eh, isnt it suppose to be what is he drawing from me?
doc: yah, you are right, theres nothing you can eat to really affect his growth. it all depends on what he draws from you... okay, see you in two weeks time and hopefully, we can see his face...if not, you are going to see him in few few weeks time anyway.

with that, we said our thank yous and good-byes... its a two week wait till we can get another scan at junior again... now i am starting to call him big head... not many guys can actually go around and proudly tell people that their junior have a big head... hmmmm....

what the inside of a bellybutton looks like

its 5 to 10 in the evening, THE WIFE is in front of the telly and i am in front of the PC... seems like our faces have to be constantly looking at a screen... we are enjoying it while we can, because when junior comes along, the PC will miss me looking at it, as will the telly.... hmmm.....

we were at the doc two thus back, there was only one couple before us, i was just staring at the six fishes in the tank in the waiting room, when our name was called..

doc: how are you this week? do you know how many weeks this is?
me:ehh, 32?
doc: good, you know... you are at 32 weeks and 1 day... so far any complains?
THE WIFE: i am starting to feel pukey again, cant really eat much too, seems to be full very fast
doc: well, the baby is taking up a lot of space, most of your internal organs are pushed up and squeezed together, thats normal... lets see how the baby is doing..

we all got into our respective places, by now we know the drill like the back of our hands...

doc: hmmm.... the baby looks all right, he is about 2.2 kgs now... the average is about 1.8-2 kgs... so he is a little on the heavy side...
me: does he still have a big head?
doc: well, he looks okay now, all the measurement looks all right.... cant really see his face though, he is facing the other side... looks like you still wont get to see his face....

back at the docs table...

me: so when will we actually decide if its going to be a normal delivery or a caesarean? is the baby going to get too big?
doc: anything below 4 kgs, we will go for a normal birth, we will only do a caesarean if its above 4 kgs.... dont worry, going by this rate, he will only be 3.5 kg, max...
me: okay..
doc: and the moon cake festival is coming, try to watch the mooncakes... dont want to over do it
THE WIFE: will try lah

our next appointment is in two weeks time, by my own reckoning, junior with come along late oct/early nov... i alrealy lost a big part of my freedom when i became a hubby, looks like i am gonna lose the rest of my time when i became a daddy....

seeing is believing

its 7.15 in the evening, its a cool evening after a rainny day. THE WIFE is on the phone yakking to her friend about her wedding plans and i am in front of the computer after a heavy dinner... at 88 kgs, i am still the chairman of the 80s club, junior got some big shoes to fill...

we were at the docs two thusday back... we were into our 30th week... 10 more weeks to go... THE WIFE is starting to get the morning sickness again and i am starting to get cranky.... the doc must be doing a roaring business, his clinic is not open till 7 in the evening and already there about 7 couples waiting outside his locked clinic..... after half an hour of waiting in the waiting room, it was finally our turn...

doc: good, looks like you havent put on too much weight, the mid autmum festival is coming, better watch out for the mooncakes... try to control..
THE WIFE: very hard leh,i seem to have the sweet tooth again...
me: hmmmm.....
doc: let see how the baby is doing....
after a few moments...
doc: hmmm.... heres the head of the baby, you are in week 30, the baby's head seem to be at week 33 and his body seems to be at week 31...
me: should i be worried? is he going to have a big head?

doc: at this point of time, theres no need to worry.... he is about 1.8 kgs and the average is about 1.5kgs..... lets see if we can see his face..... nope... hes not letting us see his face... oh and heres proof that he is a boy...
me: cool... can i have a picture of that?
doc: if you want... cant get a picture of his face, you want a picture of his other end is it?
me: does this comfirms that he is a boy? (i know, i am not a very bright person)
doc: eh.... to the best of this machine.... yes..

our next appointment is in two weeks time, by then junior better be letting the doc snap a picture of his face, or else theres gonna be some butt kicking come his birth day...

above average

its nine in the morning, THE WIFE is feeling a little under the weather and i am home away from work... we just put up this curtain in junior's room, and i must say, the bunny is obscence... do they actaully do this for children's bedroom? well-done IKEA (the bunny on the left has a tail, the bunny on the right has a black circle on his you know what should be)

we were at the docs last thus, i lost count how many visit this is... come to think of it, i lost count how far into it we are..... but i do know that we have our appointments on thusdays, once a month... and next visit onwards, it would be every other thusdays, later it will be every thursday till junior pops.......

ANYWAYZ.... we were at the docs last thusday... they made THE WIFE took her weighht twice... sorta to comfirm her weight... it wasnt long before we were urshered into the docs office....

Doc: hows eveything? i see your weight has increased slightly, thats good compared to the big jump the last visit... you off the milk?
THE WIFE: yah, been watching my diet
me:mmmmmm
Doc: lets have a look see at the baby, see if we can snap a picture today... hmmmm... his arms are blocking his face... he weights about 1.45 kilos, the average is 1.2, so he is above average.... (wounderful machine the docs have)
me: so hes turning to be a big boy?
Doc: yah, but we dont want him to be too big, might have problem during birth... we will aim for a natural birth but if it cant be help, we will have to do a caesarean..
me:mmmm
Doc: looks like we cant take any pictures today, maybe we will try again in two weeks time.
we were back at his desk...
Doc: before you go, let me touch on the ambilical cord blood.... the blood is good, if you dont harvest it, they would throw it away..... it can be used for the baby himself, his siblings even his parents... give it some thought, i have some brochures outside, i think it cost about 800 for the whole procedure and then later 250 every year... you have to decide before the due date..
THE WIFE: we went to the baby class, they told us it was about 1200..
DOC: you get the brochure outside, call up this lady and say that you are my patient, can have discount
me:hmmmmmmmmmm

a doc with connections... how handy...
